Click here to change this textThe thyroid gland is a very important hormonal gland that helps regulate several important functions in your body– most notably your metabolism. It is located in the neck, below your voice box (larynx) and above the collarbones. If the thyroid becomes diseased, several health issues can occur so it’s imperative that you seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with some form of thyroid gland disease. There are several types of thyroid disorders, the most common being:

  • Overactive gland or hyperthyroidism
  • Underactive gland or hyperthyroidism
  • Enlarged thyroid or goiter
  • Nodules on the thyroid

If you have a family history of thyroid cancer, you may be at a higher risk of developing a thyroid disorder. In the event that you start to develop a growth or swelling in your neck and have difficulty breathing and swallowing, please call us as soon as possible.

Thyroid Surgery/Thyroidectomy

A thyroidectomy is surgery to remove all or part of your thyroid gland. The thyroid, an organ in the front of the neck, is divided into 2 lobes. It makes hormones that control how much energy you have and how fast your body uses it. If the thyroid grows too large, you may have difficulty swallowing and breathing.

Thyroid disorders are a serious medical condition, and treatment should not be delayed. At Commonwealth ENT Associates, we have helped numerous patients with hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and goiters remove their diseased glands and lead healthy lives. We work with endocrinologists who will continue your care.
